Almar Kok

Chair

Almar Kok is senior researcher at the VU University Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University Medical Centers in the Netherlands. With a background in social sciences, his research focuses on functional aging. His mission is to extend disability-free life years through better understanding interindividual differences in the impact of age-related challenges on physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning. Keywords in his research are resilience, inequality and complexity. Almar integrates theories, methods and longitudinal data from population-based and clinical cohort studies spanning multiple disciplines, such as sociology, epidemiology and psychiatry. He leads several interdisciplinary research projects and is affiliated with the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA).
