Bianca Buurman is a nurse and professor of Acute Geriatric Care at the Amsterdam UMC. Her research focuses on the onset of acute care needs of older adults and ways to organize care differently, so that this leads to better outcomes for the older adults. In recent years, her research team has focused on the prevention of acute admissions through proactive care in general practice and better palliative care. In addition, the focus has been on shifting hospital care in the acute geriatric community hospital and on better guidance and recovery after hospital admissions, such as ambulatory geriatric rehabilitation and optimizing short-term residential care. In the last years she is working on data-driven approaches for community nursing and to make better health policy decisions with simulation modelling. Besides being a professor, Bianca is also chair of the Dutch nurses and carers association, with 105.000 members (V&VN).
