Emiel Hoogendijk

Dr. Emiel O. Hoogendijk is an epidemiologist, working as an assistant professor at the Department of Epidemiology & Data Science and the Department of General Practice of Amsterdam UMC. He holds a PhD in Medicine from VUmc Amsterdam, where he performed his PhD research on care for frail older people in primary care. Currently, he is part of the research group of the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam, and he is involved with various (international) research projects on challenges for healthy aging, such as frailty, sarcopenia and malnutrition. He has a special interest in the connection between social and physical functioning, such as the effects of loneliness and social isolation on physical health and vice versa. Emiel published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals. In 2019, he coordinated a Frailty series for The Lancet.
