Hans Hobbelen

Hans Hobbelen (PhD, PT) began his career as a physiotherapist in a nursing home in Eindhoven. In 2001, he earned his master’s degree in movement sciences. In 2010, he obtained his PhD on the topic of paratonia, a specific form of hypertonia in dementia. Since 2012, he has been a professor of Aging and Paramedical Care at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. In addition to movement disorders in dementia, his primary area of focus is frailty, specifically the development and prevention of frailty. His research is aimed at the multidimensionality of frailty with a holistic perspective. Hans is the chair of the International Association for Physiotherapists working with Older People (official subgroup of World Physiotherapy) and a member of the Clinical Consortium on Healthy Ageing and the WHO’s global network on Long-Term Care.
