🎤 Presentation: Surgery in an ageing population; innovation to implementation
Across the world increasing numbers of older people are considering and/or undergoing elective and emergency surgical procedures. However, the lifetime impact of social determinants and the accumulation of multiple long conditions and geriatric syndromes with age, results in the older population being at increased risk of adverse postoperative outcome. It is now apparent that a different model of perioperative care is required to deliver value-based perioperative care for older people. In this keynote lecture, we will consider the need for innovation and the barriers and solutions to implementation of age-attuned models of perioperative care.
